He says it's nothing to worry about....

My husband has always been a snorer, and he falls asleep at the drop of a hat--when I'm talking to him, when he's watching TV, when he takes a long bath. Sometimes, he'll snore loudly, then not breathe at all for up to 20 seconds, but when he DOES inhale again, it isn't another loud snore, just a breath. I checked the clock one night, and in a 2-minute span, there was about 45 seconds in which he didn't breathe at all. Not all at once...just off and on. He said it was nothing to worry about because he's done it for years, but it DOES worry me. I'm looking for a general opinion here, nothing specific. Should he be checked out by a doctor or am I just being a worrywart??

Follow-up 1

Nothing to worry about?? He's wrong, Stacey. Welcome...and pardon my bluntness but I've been where he is now. I stuck my head in the sand for 20 years and I'd STILL be in denial had congestive heart failure (CHF) not forced medical intervention. I'm not yet 50, and the damage to my heart cannot be reversed. However, the off-the-scale hypertension and the obstructive sleep apnea that contributed *significantly* to the heart damage CAN be treated and controlled. I enourage you to search the archives here; there are many stories that have been shared about the results of ignoring, denying and minimizing this condition. Encourage him to read those posts...print them out and leave them on his pillow...do whatever you have to do to convince him that he needs to see a doctor. If he's willing to post here...we'll be happy to share experiences....if he (or you) would like to chat - real time - we can do that too...we'll do whatever we can do to help you convince him that he needs to see his doctor - soon.
