Sleeping partners

I spent years knowing nothing about sleep apnea, even though I exhibited all the classic symptoms...then spent more years in denial. I literally ruined my wife's hearing with my snoring...it was as if she worked unprotected in a high noise area. She has greatly reduced function in both ears. I nearly ruined her health as well...she slept very little so as to rouse me when I stopped breathing. At first, she could just nudge me to restart my breathing. Toward the end, before my sleep study, she had to literally sit astride me and shake me to the point of lifting my shoulders completely off the bed! Her health improved 200% after I started on BiPAP. If you suspect that you have sleep apnea, DO something about it. If you suspect your sleeping partner has apnea, beg, plead, rant, rave, cajole, drag...do whatever it takes to get him or her to an accredited sleep lab. Both of your well-beings depend on it!.....

Follow-up

I fully understand what your wife went through. However, she was much luckier than I was. I didn't know anything about Apnea, all I knew was that my husband's snoring was like a freight train every night. I'd lay and listen to him and when he'd stop, I'd think "hurray!", then I'd hear him gasp! He only stopped snorring long enough to stop breathing! What I wouldn't give to hear his snorring now, so I could encourage him to go for a sleep study, because I lost him 8 years ago to a massive heart attack! With everything I know about Sleep Apnea now, I have no doubt in my mind what led to that heart attack. I BEG AND PLEAD WITH ANYONE OUT THERE WHO THINKS THE SYMPTOMS COULD FIT THEM, SAVE YOUR LIFE AND SAVE YOUR LOVED ONES ALOT OF PAIN! A sleep study is painless!!!!
