? snoring

I live alone and think I may have a sleep disorder. I'm extremely tired during the day and wake up several times during the night. I would like to get tested, but my dr thinks I won't qualify for a sleep study with my insurance because I don't know if I snore. I tend to sleep on my side and stomach, rarely my back. I'm just crazy? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Follow-up

I, too, live alone and have recently been diagnosed with severe obstructive sleep apnea. I have several suggestions for you...in what I feel to be a reverse order of priority: 3) Get an inexpensive tape recorder and a 90-minute tape cassette. If expense is an issue, many libraries/senior centers/churches in large cities will loan tape recorders....tapes are very reasonably priced. Place it on your nightstand and set it to record as you retire for the night. 2) You, as the subscriber (customer), have the right to call your insurance carrier directly to ascertain what they do and do not cover. You might want to ask if they require a referral from your primary physician in order to contact a sleep disorders center....and you might want to ask about their durable medical equipment coverage. 3) You, as the patient (customer) are paying for your doctor's time, experience, knowledge (and, most likely, a portion of his next yacht payment - sorry...couldn't resist). As a consumer (of services he provides - just as a plumber, electrician, housepainter would) who hires him for advice, counsel, direction and benefit of his medical expertise (?) and training....you have the right to expect him to listen, accept what you tell him at face value and, if he cannot help you - refer you to someone who can. If that level of service isn't provided, you have the right to fire him; my suggestion is to (ready....Aim....) FIRE!!!
