think I have sleep apnea - england
I am a 33 year old male weighing 350lbs living in the North East of England. My partner told me a few months back that I seem to stop breathing during the night frequently. I do feel sleepy during the day sometimes but put that down to my weight. I have never been to a doctor in years and I know (quite rightly) when I do go I will be told to loose weight Here in England we seem to be quite behind on recognising sleep apnea as a serious medical condition. Apparently it can take nearly 2 years to get a referal to a specalist via the National Health. Presently I am getting paranoid about going to bed and falling asleep. Does anyone have any tips for a good sleeping position ?, I know I have to loose a lot of weight, but will things like "breathe right" strips ease my situation at all? Worried and confused
Follow-up
I could have written your posting, the similarities are striking; with one exception. My condition has been diagnosed and treated. Since then, I am not sleepy during the workday, I drive unimpaired by inalertness, I have the energy to exercise, I do not suffer from morning headaches and I no longer make little side trips to the "Loo" before daylight. Whatever it takes, get treatment. Life is far too short to live this way; I am only regretful that I put off seeking help for several years. Use us if you need questions answered.
