Obstructive sleep apnea
The short, fat neck is the usual for obstructive apnea, has anyone heard about someone having problems from a long, slender neck?
Follow-up
Not necessarily from having such a neck, but a collapsable airway can be found in any size/shape neck. Sleep apnea is very common in those with short fat necks, but is also found in those who have receeding chins, (micrognathia) - you know the folks who look like the SIMPSONS on TV, they have no lower jaw. Well that facial structure places the tongue very far back in the head where it can obstruct the throat even if you don't have extra weight on you. AND sleep apnea is found in many other people as well. You simply cannot tell by looking at the sixe and shape of the neck, it is much more complicated than that.
