Heredity AND O3 ALLERGY UNITS

Hi all,

wondering if I have sleep apnea. I'm male, 47.
My Uncle 58 has it. Is it hereditary?

I have bad insomnia. And often wake with bad headaches.

I HAVE to have a fan blow on me ( my face ) to prevent
headaches.

Also I need window air coming in not to get headaches.

With damn allergies now I use an 03 air cleaner.

This is a Godsend in waking hours. ( even when turned
too high)

but if I use it at night - even on very low -
I cant sleep well. Wake up too soon. And feel TOTALLY
SPACED for hours after awaking. Almost like brain damage.

But if I dont use it - fireplace smoke, whatevers in
the air interferes with my sleep - often waking with
terrible puffy eyes.

Oh, I also have had bad migraines since age 20. There
pretty well gone last couple years. But I think thats
cause I've really elminated a lot of foods in my diet.

thanks for any advice

Follow-up

Sure sounds like apnea, hereditary or not. The headache can be caused by oxygen deprivation from the apnea. I used to need lots of fresh air too -- now I know it's because I wasn't getting enough oxygen. I had insomnia occassionally too, primarily because sleeping was so unpleasant. Go to your doctor and insist on a sleep study. I let my doctor put me off, and my apnea got very severe. I can't tell you how many times I almost fell asleep while driving and working. Since I work around construction equipment a lot, the latter can be more dangerous than driving. You may have a problem with allergies when you're getting used to the CPAP, however most CPAPs have a couple filters that make the air cleaner than you usually breathe. If I'm really congested, I use some Afrin nasal spray, but then I have to deal with the super-stuffiness the next day when it wears off. I've used the CPAP for over three months now, and it's been like coming out of the fog. I feel better, can think better, and am finding life more enjoyable. So call your doctor TODAY. Let us know how it goes!
