Re: Wow . . . Maybe I'm Correct????
An Auto C-PAP will have a very low base pressure (like when you start a C-PAP machine using the RAMP switch. The machine will 'listen' to you breathe while you sleep and will adjust the pressure to your needs. If you are like me, at a setting of 20 cm, I can run most of the night at 10 or 12. The BIG advantage of this type of machine is that it changes with your changes. If you sleep different, change weight, etc, this machine will adjust for that. ALSO, this machine can help make up for a poor sleep study where a wrong fixed pressure was prescribed for C-PAP or Bi-PAP.
Just don't mistake D-PAP for Auto C-PAP. D-PAP is 'Demand' -PAP and is not (in my opinion) as good as Auto C-PAP because of the way it adjusts its airflow. D-PAP always runs on low and then kicks into high gear when there's a problem and then drops back quickly. Auto C-PAP smoothly bumps pressure up as problems arise, maintains for a time and then slowly steps down when they're gone (I have VERY simplified this!). The 'Auto' method is much like what is done during titration in the sleep lab.
All you have to do is try one of these machines and you'll understand why I keep going on like this! If you haven't, check out my other posts here.
