UPPP recovery information please...

Well, I opted for the surgery after not having any success with CPAP. Im 32 years old, and can't see myself on a machine for the rest of my life. I had the UPPP surgery on Jan 19, so I'm in the first stage of recovery. What Im looking for are any tips/hints/suggestions from folks who have been through this. The pain is pretty intense, let me tell you. But, my ENT said he thought I was a very good candidate for this, said he could see that my uvula and back of my throat were grossly oversized. Also, Im not obese by any means (5'11", 210 lbs). So, I took the plunge. Now I just want to heal up and try to live a normal life again...thanks for any help!

Follow-up

Congratulations on making it though the major hurdle! I know things are pretty painful now, but it WILL get better soon. I had UPPP/tonsillecomy/septoplasty right before Christmas... For me, warm broth/chocolate/tea went down much easier than anything cold. I did eat lots of popsicles after the first few days. The main thing is to take your pain meds right on schedule...The object is to stay ahead of the pain instead of trying to minimize what pain has already gotten bad. Take it easy the first week...go slowly trying to eat, but drink lots of liquid to prevent dehydration. A humidifier in your room at night will help the rawness of the throat upon awakening. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
