Re: retrognathia?

Are you treating your apnea with a dental device since it is caused by the misalignment of the jaws. The reason I'm asking is that my upper jaw overhangs too. The dentist says that I've ground my teeth down over the last few years. That seems to have coincided with the increase in my apnea.

Follow-up

Yes. I am using the mandibular advancement dental appliance all by itself (no CPAP), and it completely works for me, according to the sleep study I had done in December. Unfortunately, I also have a TMJ disorder and neck muscle problems, which are probably related to the jaw problem itself. My bite is completely migratory and I'm sure I've worn down some teeth in an odd way considering everything. I actually broke a tooth down to the gumline not long ago - I think the stress of being a tooth in my mouth caused it to leap to its doom ! I think the problem tends to be of the chicken and egg variety - it's worth following up with a dentist and perhaps orthodontist if you're having that much of a problem. Good luck with everything !
