1st Night with my new Remstar Auto

Posted by MrMagloo on August 22, 2002 at 11:46:22:

I got my RemstarAuto with heated humidifier, Mirage FF series II, Encore Pro and Reader. Gosh, this thing is quiet!

Anyway, my sleep study indicated 10 cm eliminated all apneas, but 12 cm was required to eliminate snoring too. As such, the Dr prescribed 12 cm, which seems logical.

Although the unit was shipped with the DME instructions and the User manual, I still can’t make heads of tails how to set it up properly. The unit was shipped with a min of 4cm and a max of 20cm. The ramp time said 15 minutes, but in user mode, the display suggested no ramp was enabled. My guess is, this was shipped with the factory settings.

Well, I attempted to adjust up the minimum to the suggested 2-4 below titration or 8cm in my case and 14cm on the high end. These are the first two setting adjustments in DME mode. That went fine, and I left the 15 min ‘ramp’ alone, but something doesn’t seem right with this ramp mode. The instructions say to skip the ramp settings in Autocpap mode?

When the unit starts, it goes right to the minimum of 8cm. If I press the ramp button, nothing happens. In user mode, I get no ramp adjustability nor mention in the menu.

I’m under the impression that although you might have a working range of 8cm to 14cm, you can enable a ramp period at a lower pressure of say 4 to 6cm, for a certain duration. I just can’t figure out how to enable this and this instructions, well, are lacking to say the least.

Anyone know how to fine tune this unit? BTW, the Encore Pro software is pretty slick. Although it’ll take a while to learn how to interpret everything, I did immediately notice it reported quite a bit of leakage. I guess I got a bit of mask adjusting to work on, but the good thing is, I wouldn’t have had a clue w/o the software.
