Sometimes the need for heated humidity is seasonal. You may find that the heated dry air in the winter needs additional humidity from a heated humidifier. Also, some people may need heated humidity when they are congested from allergies or colds. Sometimes, people can get by without any humidification. When I left my heater off one night, the water level in the reservoir did not change overnight (no humidity was added to the air) and I was miserable with sneezing and runny nose the next day.
