There are two parts to a normal sleep study. The first is diagnostic. The second, the titration, is done only if the diagnosis shows OSA or another sleep disorder that can be treated with xPAP. It is when the optimal pressure for treatment is determined.
Often the diagnosis and titration are done on separate nights. However, some clinics will do a "split-study" where they do the diagnosis the first half of the night and then put the CPAP and mask on you and continue with the titration.
It is also normal to have periodic titrations (about once a year or so) or to have another titration if symptoms return to see if the pressure should be adjusted.
Good luck with your study. Let us know if you need any help getting started.
