8 year struggle

Posted by Bostonblackie on August 10, 2002 at 13:51:54:

I have been struggling with apnea for about 8 years now. After trying every type mask on the market,1 cpap and 2 autopaps, the struggle goes on. I am going to try out the new Spirit next week. I had turbinate reduction, septoplasty and an unsuccessful UP3 seven years ago and CPAP ever since. The last 6 months, I have used a series 2 Mirage full face mask, but that shows about 55 minutes of leak per hour and 250 snores per hour on my clunker AutoAdjustLT. The last two nights I've been using a Nasal Aire with my mouth taped shut (air vents thru my mouth). Snores and leaks were down to fairly minor amounts, but my AHI has gone up to 30 the night before last and 70 last night. I don't know if it is me, the mask, the machine, or all of the above. But, the struggle goes on. The sleep center PhD said I was the most persistent person they had ever seen - in that I continued the struggle and have not given up.
This website has been a godsend, because it has resulted in keeping my morale up and providing me with very useful information. Thanks to Sandman, Perry, and all those who have posted positive responses to my "venting" and those who have shared their situations with the rest of us. :)
