100% compliance, still heavy.

Hi folks! It's been quite a while! It's nice to see alot of you regular posters around. I say that familiarity breeds friendship, not contempt.
Anyway, to the meat of the issue.
I had shoulder surgery, (was put under), and basically awoke with depressed breathing problems. I can recall the nurse in the recovery room yelling at me to take a couple of deep breaths. (I could hear the pulse oximetry alarm going off). This happened five times, or so I am told. Since then, if I am in the lying down position, I have trouble breathing. Coupled with the fact that I gained 100lbs within three months of my surgery. (I believe that there is something they are not telling me).
After FIGHTING for treatment for six months and sleeping in a chair the whole time, the sleep specialist sent a prescription for a CPAP to the local DME. Now, the DME have been wonderful, although we cannot get the same deals or service on equipment that people in the US or Ontario seen to get. There was an 18 month wait for a sleep clinic bed, now it has grown to over 2yrs. I have never had a sleep study allowed to me, other than a sleep test at home, with an auto-adjust machine, position sensor, and pulse oximetry sensor and unit.
Before this whole mess started, I was a shift worker for a great tire manufacturer. Now, I am soon to be unemployed, now that I cannot do the work and cannot work the nights.
I know this sounds like a sob story, but it is just part of life, I suppose. Now to the problem. I wonder what would happen if I lost a bit of weight? I am committed to a plan, but don't really know what plan I should go on. I have thoroughly educated myself on nutrition, so much so that I have left the nutritionist in the dust. She recommended that I drink diet pop. I don't drink pop. I drink water. But that is another long story, obviously.
I now weigh 280lbs, 8 less than my max. I need to drop 100lbs ideally, but will settle for 80. My 100% compliance is probably only because it feels like I am choking when not wearing the mask when in the horizontal position.
I need a plan. Anyone out there who can help, your help is sincerely requested. If you don't want to post here, email me at the address provided. Thankyou in advance. I really appreciate this forum and you people.
