I'd recommend Weight Watchers if you can find a group to join. It's a whole new program and amazingly easy to follow - it only takes about a week to figure it out. If you do join up with them, you'll find most of the participants are women - but both my husband and I go and we're averaging 10 t0 15 pounds per month.
Now, to the other comments:
1) If you are still stopping breathing while prone with the CPAP on, it might be that your setting is too low. Although I'm not a doctor, I think that if this is obstructive sleep apnea the proper setting for the machine would hold your throat open and allow you to breathe while prone. That feeling of choking when lying down and not on CPAP is "normal" for apneacs - it's probably an apnea taking place.
2) If a higher setting doesn't solve it, you might need to be checked for central sleep apnea, which is when your brain simply forgets to signal your body to breathe.
This can also be helped by some kind of PAP machine.
3) I guess all you can do is shake things up and try to get the best care you can.
