AALT question for Perry

Posted by cant sleep in toronto on September 04, 2002 at 19:37:49:

I'm coming up to about 9 months with my AALT. I'm finding that - my average pressure has gone up AND my AHI as reported by the machine has also gone up. At NO time since I got it has my AHI been consistently under 5 (maybe three, four nights over 9 months) but it was consistently in the 5 to 10 range and now it is moving up into the 10 to 15 range (although I believe I have allergies - so does the ENT - but the scratch test was inconclusive except for dust and moulds).
I had expected an AHI of under 5 was achievable. Was I dreaming (no pun intended!)? Would a different machine have been a better choice (I had to roll the dice asthere was no way to try out AutoPAPs ...)?
Also, should I focus on the apnea number (0 - 2, with 3 - 9 mixed on an average night) instead of the AHI? (My sleep doc originally said that I reacted quickly to events). As for the real test, yes my energy and quality of life has improved BUT I think there is still room to improve further. Also, I find my results somewhat "uneven", with some weeks where I feel noticeably better and some where I know I'm not sleeping much. Suggestions (beyond seeing the sleep doc - it may be "free" but there's a six-month wait) as to how I can tell I have the right machine and that it's working right (that don't violate forum guidelines) would be appreciated.
