Can anyone shed anymore light on the connection between sleep apnea and bi-polar.
Hubby has been diagnosed with severe sleep apnea for nearly 2 years, 6 months prior to diagnosis he was treated for depression. Treatment for both helped him immensly to begin with, for a few weeks, but then he slipped back to mood swings and old symptoms.
Recently the mood swings vary from up to "dark". He doesn't realise he is in or going into a "dark" mood and while he is in it there is no reasoning with him, and it seems like he feels that the whole world is wrong and he is right and why isn't anyone listening to him.
His up and dark moods can last from an hour to over a week at a time. There seems to be no trigger to change the moods. When he comes out of it he remembers being a bastard, but doesn't remember going into it.
We have had his info downloaded from his autoset T and his reports are text book perfect, so I'm figuring there must be more to it.
Could the sleep apnea have been disguising bi-polar, or should I stop playing doctor and hypothosising.
He has a sleep spec. appt. next week, and all concerns will be raised - hubby is in an up mood right now and prepared to look at all avenues.
Sorry this is a long one.
Kitty.
