Aclaim Without Diffuser?

Posted by Steven on September 29, 2002 at 17:01:57:

Can the Aclaim be used without the diffuser? So the exhaust air just goes out through the holes, without the pad there? Has anyone done it? (I would think it would work.)

I'll tell you why I ask. I took apart the Aclaim to wash a week ago, washed all the parts except the diffuser and the foam thing, as specified in the instructions. (Since then I haven't used it again, been using the Breeze.) I was going to use the Aclaim again tonight, and cannot find the tiny piece of plastic that goes over the diffuser, to hold it in place. I'll probably find it at some point, but can't now. (They'd probably charge a fortune to buy a new one--the pricing of CPAP accessory replacement parts is so ridiculous!)

Also, I find the Aclaim can be rather noisy, and I think that might be due to the exhaust air going through the diffuser pad. I wonder if it would be quieter without it. Anyone tried it?

An unrelated question about the Aclaim. The glider broke on putting on the mask a couple weeks ago. Fortunately it came with a second one, so I put on the spare glider. However, I'm still worried about that, as I had not used the mask very much (I only got it a few weeks ago, and don't use it regularly, more often the Breeze) when it broke. Do those break a lot? If this second one breaks, is the company going to charge me a fortune to buy a new one? Or is that covered under warranty? Anyone got replacement gliders under warranty?
