first night cpap disaster

Posted by gerbil on October 01, 2002 at 00:05:46:

Thanks for the replies below to my 16 times a night posting,I tried my first night with mask last night and found it impossible for one particular reason, apart from the obviouse initial strangeness I never felt I was getting quite enough air in and breathing out seemed a little obstructed.I'm pretty sure I had it set up right and its the kind that sets itself for pressure etc.
The most frustrating thing was that every time I started to slide into sleep my mouth opened and there was whoosh and of course I woke up !!! so I abandoned it for threst of the night.Naturaly I'm not put off by a little difficulty to start with it's just too important,I shall be telephoning the hospital for advice later it's too ealy in the morning here yet.
Does it sound to you like I might need the mask to go over my mouth as well as my nose ?
