As you pointed out my original thoughts were wrong. Thanks for the correction.
In your discussion you mention the amount of flow through the "overflow valve" (darn brain cramps, I can't think of it either). The vent is to allow a wash out of exhaled air to prevent re breathing.
Would the volume of the mask require more air movement for a more thourgh cleansing?
Your last sentence is of course the most important of the discussion, the rest is merely interesting.
