severe obstructive sleep apnea UARS

Posted by TJ on October 10, 2002 at 06:18:30:

HELLO-
I WAS WONDERING IF THERE IS ANYONE OUT THERE THAT HAS HAD THE SURGERY FOR SEVERE OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA COULD TELL ME ABOUT HOW IT WENT AND IF THEY NEEDED TO DO IT AGAIN AND HOW THE RESULTS WERE?
I HAVE SEVERE OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNEA WHICH IS A RESULT OF THE SOFT PALLET COLLAPSING. I DO HAVE TROUBLE GETTING TO SLEEP - USUALLY AROUND 1:30 AM AND WAKING UP FOR ME IS LIKE WAKING UP FROM A PLANE CRASH- I AM ALWAYS EXHAUSTED. I AM A 5'10"- 185 LB. MALE. I HAVE NOTICED THAT CONSUMING ALCOHOL MAKES THE SOFT PALLET EVEN MORE PRONE TO COLLAPSING. I DON'T SEEM TO HAVE ANY PROBLEM THAT I KNOW OF WITH THE TONGUE FALLING BACK WHICH IS WHY MY 'E.N.T.' BELIEVES THE SURGERY SHOULD BE SUCCESSFULL. IF THERES ANYONE OUT THERE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THAT HAS HAD THE SURGERY I'D LIKE TO HEAR FROM YOU,
THANKS ALOT,
TJ
