Dement in "The Promise of Sleep" has a chapter where he is very specific about what procedures have had success and performed by which surgeons, whom he names, if you are in the US. I wouldn't be even considering surgery without a really close read of that chapter, a sleep test at a registered clinic and consultations with a couple of highly recommended doctors first. If you have sleep apnea, you wouldn't be aware of your tongue falling back because it happens while you are asleep.I assume you are posting on a sleep apnea forum because you think you have sleep apnea, so why haven't you consulted a sleep doctor? Your ENT sounds like they are not a sleep doctor, because you didn't mention any sleep tests, so you may be very careful of their recommendations. And read through previous posts on earlier forums or do a search under surgery. You will find a lot of people have had unsuccessful surgery and any doctor who would perform it without even a sleep test deserves avoiding, in my uninformed non-medical opinion.
