You don't say how long your CPAP trial was. If it was only one night, it wasn't long enough for your body to adjust.

I started at 12cm which initially felt like gale-force winds blowing in my face. My ribcage was sore for a couple of nights. After that, I never noticed the pressure and have had no difficulty. Incidentally, my pressure has been adjusted upward to 16 and now to 18 with no exhalation difficulty.

All this is just to say you might not need a bipap.
