Need Advice

Posted by sleeplessinsd on October 18, 2002 at 20:03:21:

I have been trying to use my CPAP machine since August with very little success. The problem is I take off my mask during the night without waking up! I wake up the next morning with the mask laying on the pillow next to me. I am trying to use the new Resmed full face mask and the Respironics nasal mask with a chin strap(I am a mouth breather). My pressure is ten. I have tried nasal spray(flonase)and breath-right strips. I have a heated humidifier. The full face mask is not very comfortable, but when I wear the nasal mask, I feel like I am not getting enough air. Do I need a bipap or an autopap machine? Do I need to adjust the pressure? Should I just keep trying?(I do keep my mask on about one out of five nights). Do I need to find a sleep specialist doctor?

When I asked my doctor about a sleep specialist, he said he didn't know if the appointment would be covered by my Blue Shield HMO. He did say he would try to get me a referral if I didn't get any better. Any advice would be much appreciated. I have severe sleep apnea and I need to get some sleep.
