The nare is the opening to the nostril. Some people have large stiff openings (nares) for the nostrils, which is good. Some have small opening and the collapse easily when they breath in, which is bad.

There is minor surgery to correct the problem. Thin nares tend to close with a strong negative pressure when breathing in.
