Doc said don't sleep on machine

Posted by Traveler in Ohio on November 09, 2002 at 07:03:07:

I have a question. I wrote awhile back about my sleep doc telling me to find a new dr. if I was ever more than 5 min. again to find another dr. I went to a new doc at a large University Thurs. I was not asked to fill out a medical history or what medications I take. He spent about 5 min. total with me, asked me a few questions about falling asleep during conversations, etc. I told him I have central sleep apnea & sleep on a bi-pap st, but it hasn't been working right. And that I had not slept on the machine for 2 weeks because everytime I move, cough, or take a deep breath while on the machine, it starts to stutter and shake and then stops blowing air. And the provider won't do anything about it, they said there is nothing wrong with the machine. I had accidentally left the copy of my previous sleep study in the car. I told him I would bring it in, he said he wouldn't have time to look at it because he was leaving. So the doc, in a big hurry, told me to not sleep on the machine again, that I probably don't need the machine anymore. He said he might call me for another appointment to come in next week. When the 5 min. appointment was over, I walked to the car & brought the sleep study report and the sleep diary I kept for a month in & gave it to the receptionist anyway. Is this the way I am supposed to be treated? If he calls me to come in for another appointment, does he mean a new sleep study (it's been over 2 1/2 yrs. since my last one). Does no one care what happens to me because I have Medicaid? Would it do any good to report the provider company to Medicaid fraud (because to rent the machine at the tune of over $700 a month of taxpayer's money, and the machine doesn't work, I would certainly call that Medicaid fraud). I have tried to get another provider to supply a machine, and they said Medicaid won't pay for it. Is this new Dr. going to help me or make things worse?
