After 10 years on CPAP I have developed some methods of coping with colds and congestion. There are two products on the market that are very effective, for me, to help control congestions. They work as a team. Alcolol and a little gadget called a "nose douche" (you can find them doing a Google Search). You put some of the Alcolol solution in the nose douche and apply it one nostril at a time allowing the solution to flood your nostril and run back slightly down your throat. The solution which is a very mild one containing some herbs and a small amount of alcohol is soothing and clears the nasel passages plus seems to reduce the swelling of the nasel passages. That's one solution.

Another big help are some mild products I like. One is called "Ayre" and another is called "Nose Better". Both of these products are gel form, reminiscent of Vick's Vapor Rub but milder. They are very helpfull. Another product is a saline solution in a spray bottle. These products are available at most drug stores.

I don't like using decongestants because, in my experience, they have a rebound effect and after two or three days use they seem to make the congestion situation worse.

The last resort is to get a precription from you doctor for "emergency use". It's "Gauifen/Codeine Liq SF". It's very effective but I only use it as a last resort because I don't like the idea of "dopping" up. But I do keep it around just in case.

I just got over a cold and didn't have to resort to using the "Gauifen/Codiene" but I did use the nose douche and other products I mentioned.

These work for me, they may not work for you but I offer them for your consideration.

Jack
