I think you're off by a factor of 10, 8 months x 30 days = 240 days
240 days x 10 hours of use per night would be 2400 hours.
Even so, an 8-month old machine shouldn't be whistling. Good luck with repair/replacement. If you find out what the problem was, will you let us know?
