As an update to my situation:

I am once again mouthbreathing, even with the dental guard. I have a chinstrap on order, so I have yet to try the two devices together. The single-sided dental guard alone is not enough---at least not now that I've become comfortable enough with it to revert to my old ways of sleeping.

I will try the chinstrap and single-sided dental guard once the two arrive, then report the results back to this thread.

By the way of dental guards, Steph's double-sided guard sounds like the best solution to me. Once my insurance coverage allows a second dental guard to be made, I will definitely try Steph's idea. A double-sided dental guard does sound like such a better idea!
