I also have a dental guard (an upper) and it works for me if I use a "lip strap". The guard alone doesn't work, nor does the lip strap alone work. The combination does keep me from mouth breathing. Another titration study that I had two weeks ago confirmed that this combination works for me. The sleep tech said that I had alsmost no mouth breathing.
The lip strap is a creation of RenoTom. I use the simple 3/4 inc. wide elastic that I bought at a fabric store. I wear it under my Breeze. The post that describes his creation is here:

I still use the simple strap that is held together with a safety pin. Since it is under my Breeze it doesn't shift around. I tried 4 commercial chin straps and none of them worked.
Thought you might want to give this solution a try before investing in a double mouth guard. Different things work for different people, so this may or may not work for you. This works solution works for me. Finally, after months of trial and error. Good luck.
