Hi,Phil! There are really only two kinds of friends in life: 1) superficial friends and, 2) genuine friends. Your genuine friends will undoubtedly want you to wear your CPAP since it helps maintain your health. Even most superficial friends would probably prefer that you do not risk your health by refraining from sleeping with your CPAP. As for those few remaining superficial friends, are the really worth risking your life? I think not! In that light, perhaps you might consider your CPAP equipment to serve as an **extremely** useful validation of your current friendships. Does any person who would dissuade you from maintaining your health deserve your gift of frienship?
As for your deep and valid concern about God not having intended us to sleep with CPAP machinery. I really do not wish to start a big theological debate here, but don't you think that God you mentioned designed the entire universe, the human condition itself, including all of its anomalies and challenges? Perhaps He intended life, by design, to be a highly challenging learning experience. If so we must respect that, and cope with those circumstances which Life has dealt us.
In February I went to the emergency room with a severe esophageal obstruction. As bad luck would have it, that night was an *extremely* busy one in the emergency room. Aside from quite a few influenza cases, there were two people undergoing cardiac arrest, and several critical cases rushed in from a horrific traffic accident. I can't tell you how my little esophageal obstruction paled in comparison to what those critical patients were going through. In had tears in my eyes, and I completely forgot that I had esophageal obstruction that night. As you might have guessed, that night was a life-altering experience for me. It really taught me how to put things in their proper perspective.
Accordingly, since I have been on CPAP, I have never considered my simple health condition to be too great a burden in life to bear. On the contrary, I think I am *extremely* grateful to have both the means and circumstances in life to have been blessed with my CPAP machine. It keeps me alive very nicely, thank you! I have told all my friends and many of my clients about it, and I have yet to receive even a hint of a negative reaction!
I wish you the very best of luck in coping with all the challenges your precious and blessed life brings! Long live my CPAP so that I might do the same!
