Phil,
I'm so sorry to hear how depressed you seem to be about the CPAP. I can share your hurt. My husband of 22 years, whom I love dearly, can't sleep in the same room with me anymore because the noises of the air escaping from my mask occasionally wake him up. But because of his job, he can't afford not to get a good night's sleep. Sigh...

But we manage to get through it because we know now why I've probably been sick for so long. The change in my life [our life] since I began treatment has been profound. Think of what your life would be like if you trash the mask.

Think of it this way...if you were diabetic, would you stop taking insulin because you didn't like the shots? Of course not! So don't give up the mask. You can't afford to. I agree with another hosehead who suggested that you try a mouthguard for the nights where wearing a mask might not be convenient. Try both and see what happens. It's worth a try.

You might also see if you can hook up with a counselor who deals with helping people who have long-term health problems. The lady I saw was invaluable to me in helping me to deal with my life-style changes and with my anger.
