1 I think that you should do yearly sleep labs. and 2 I found that when I was using a CPAP during the first .5 year there were good days and bad days. When I picked up an auto CPAP my sleep was much more uniform. When I did my next lab, it was found that I vary greatly during my sleep pattern and needed the variation that an autopap gave me.

I'd definately though do at least yearly checkups.
