Has your husband tried some ear plugs - rubber thingies available at a pharmacy? My mom used them for several years until my dad finally had his deviated septum fixed. It made it possible for them to sleep together without any problems. Another thought is that if it's so easy to awaken your husband, is it possible that HE might also have sleep disturbances that are undiagnosed but that cause his sleep to be lighter than the norm?
