other animals also have a hyoid bone that doesn't float like ours. so the airway is protected by a ring of connected bone- ours is not. Parrots can mimic human speech but that doesn't mean they have language capability (the ability to communicate what you thought shakespeare's Iago was really up to as opposed to repeating some of your owner's choicer invective). The speech to apnoea connection is possible in terms of inter species comparisons but I haven't read anything with anybody putting it that way- mostly they focus on the airway differences. But within humans, if you accept the AJRCCM article, apnoea is associated with speech difficulties, sort of the other way around.
