I had UPPP and it reduced my apneas from 70/hr to 65/hr :-( So, I'm not too keen on surgery...but, your doctor might know something I don't about your case. 16 is a high pressure - it might take more time than normal to get used to, you didn't say how long you've tried CPAP. I came home with no more options, so I HAD to make it work..I used an ACE bandage to keep from mouth breathing and everything's fine now...I would give it more time...I know it took a while to get used to the noise, but I'm used to it now...good luck...
