Any one else stomach snore loudest?

Posted by - Sleepy Coote on December 04, 2002 at 20:06:36:

Does anyone else snore more loudly on their stomach. Or have you ever heard of this? When my wife first told me that I snore more loudly on my stomach I was pretty sure she got it wrong. But she's insistent that my stomach snoring is much louder than when I snore on my back or sides. I never heard of this. My doctor even looked a tad perplexed when I mentioned it to him as my tonsils are not at all enlarged.

I think my wife may be right, though, because when I sleep upright in a chair with my chin down I will get full apneas. When I sleep in bed on my back I will only get hypopneas.

I know this is not the classic back-of-the-throat apnea closure, but I am stumped as to what kind it is. Any ideas?
