Theoretic question about humidifier

No issue with anyone's advice regarding humidifiers... i'm using a heated humidifer with good results, i think, so far.

But in many cases, the point is made that you're 'blowing dry air through your airways'. But really, the volume of air moving through your airways is no different that if you breathing without CPAP...you aren't breathing any faster or deeper, are you? The whole is happening at a higher pressure, but no more air is moving across the surfaces, is it?
