The types of surgery you are having done will make breathing a lot easier but will probably have minimal effect on apnea. The UPPP will also have only marginal effect if you meet standard success rates. There is a growing trend among younger more progressive thinking surgeons that MMA (jaw advancement) is a better place to start. The pain is less even though it is more invasive (nerves get severed and by the time they regen, you are healed)...it also has a higher success rate (upper 90s).
