Posted by Janey on December 18, 2002 at 17:21:50:When I started CPAP about 3-4 weeks ago, I received a Breeze with pillows. I'd tried a few masks out in the sleep lab on the night of my titration and though I started the night with an Aclaim nasal mask, I woke up during the night with terrible claustrophobia, so the tech had me switch to the Breeze. However, at home, I just can't get it "right" with the Breeze: despite changing pillow sizes twice, adjusting all of the parameters of the head gear and pillow angle, and even using a rolled up sock to take the pressure off of my nostrils, I can't avoid feeling like someone is sticking a big stick up each side of my nose. Not conducive to sleep, at all.
So, I'm ready to try a different interface, but here's the question...how can I "experiment" with different masks, without spending tons of money to buy each one? I can see that it's really a trial-and-error process before you find the right mask and headgear for you, but my insurance will only buy a new interface once every 6 months. And in the meantime, I can't make it more than 2-3 hours with the Breeze, if I can even fall asleep in the first place, so I'm not really getting any benefit from CPAP yet. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
