Posted by - Sleepy Coote on December 20, 2002 at 09:33:42:This posting is in response to D.H.'s 11/18/02 posting in Forum 105 entitled "Distilled Water from gas station" (http://www.sleepnet.com/apnea105/messages/336.html).
In that post D.H. mentions that while in Argentina he could only find distilled water in a gas station. However, that distilled water contained a warning "not to drink".
At the time I read D.H.'s article I didn't know exactly why that warning might have been printed. However, having recently spotted a similar article in one of the public news groups related to sleep disorders, I now understand why that warning might have been printed on D.H.'s label.
Apparently some distilled water (especially that sold at gas stations in other countries) contains much more that distilled water. Specifically, some of that "distilled water" contains car battery acid as well! So it's VERY conceivable that a CPAP traveler not so fluent in a given country's language might easily muddle through a coversation----intending to purchase distilled water for their CPAP humidifier, but instead walk away with battery acid!
Needless to say battery acid vapors would be quite harmful to your lungs!
