I experince the same thing. I wake about 2 or 3 am and fall back to sleep. It seems that I wake up on my back, not side, having breathing problems, but my sleep study was on my back and I slept through it ok. You best bet is to get your mask situation resolved and get a mental exercise to fall back to sleep. I theorize that since I used to get such poor sleep, that now that it is much better with the CPAP, my body has become used to less sleep and waking at 2am is the equivalent of my old apnea 7 hours of sleep.
