Hi. I have a Spirit and it's about as old as yours. I have the 2i humidifier too, but don't use it very often. I used the fixed front plate. Do you have the standard front piece for the unit? Is the sound problem better (quieter) when that is installed? Yes, the Spirit does make a whirling sound that modulates during inhale/exhale, but I wouldn't describe it as a moaning/whirling sound on mine. I found that I seem to be most aware of this sound when I first start the unit and am getting settled. After a 10 minute period, I don't seem to be aware of it.

Perhaps you do have one that's a bit noisy, but the sound does modulate as you inhale/exhale...they're not completely silent. You probably have two options: Return it where you bought it for an exchange and/or mechanical inspection if you are not satisfied. Or, get the 3 meter hose and place the unit on the floor and as far away from the bed as possible it minimize your awareness of the sound. Be sure to set up the menu for a 3 meter hose.

Otherwise, how are you liking the Spirit? Do you achieve good rest with it?

Chris
