I can't help you with the technical questions but I do have a suggestion. I too suffer from "Delayed-sleep Syndrome" -- ever since I was a kid it has routinely taken me 1 to 2 hours to fall asleep. I'll feel exhausted but as soon as my head hits the pillow, my thoughts start swirling and I can't fall asleep. About 5 years ago a doctor prescribed Ambien for me. That drug has been a godsend! With it I can fall asleep like a normal person for the first time in my life (of course now adjusting to CPAP is screwing that up). No more turning and tossing and getting increasingly frustrated as I wait for sleep to come. Now (without the CPAP) it takes me maybe 10-15 minutes to fall asleep.
