Posted by Rebecca on January 23, 2003 at 16:58:35:Hi everyone. Just a recap... I posted a couple weeks ago that I had been on CPAP for 2.5 months and was still not feeling much better. I'm at 3 months now and can say that I'm definitely feeling a little bit better, but not as much as I would like or think I should be. Anyway, I decided to explore the possibility that I am mouth breathing. I have no real reason to suspect this, but I want to rule everything out. I don't tend to wake up with a dry mouth. I've woken myself up a couple times with the air rushing out of my mouth, but that was more towards the beginning of treatment. A couple weeks ago, though, I woke up to a tiny puff of air forcing it's way through my lips. I thought that might be part of the problem, so I tried one or two random nights of ace bandaging my mouth closed. I didn't notice any difference in how I felt the next day. Then I kind of gave up on that idea, but decided again a couple days ago to pursue it, except this time with tape instead of an ace bandage. I taped my mouth the last two nights and again haven't noticed a difference in how I'm feeling. However, this morning I woke up to my cheeks puffing up with air. Of course it couldn't escape because my lips were taped. Is this a sure sign that air had been escaping through my mouth? How long do you think it would take for me to notice a difference with the tape? I don't know how long to give it before I give up. It's not a fun thing to do unnecessarily. Would letting an occasional tiny puff of air get through my lips really affect my treatment? I'm so confused and would really appreciate any input.
Thanks,
Rebecca
