I am sure there are no guidelines on this; it is medical equipment and simply must be replaced if it is broken. My DME replaced it the same day that I took it in, and said that the tech should have offered to bring me out a new one when I called at 11:00 pm. Is yours broken - or what do you mean by "if it stops working?"
