Water usage is a function of the air flow over the heated water, the more flow the more water usage. Water usage can be a good indicator of an air leak after the humidifier, ie mouth. Having history of water usage without extra leaks such as mouth leaks will give valuable data, waking after a normal nights sleep and realizing 2 or more times your normal water usage will indicate you had some sort of air leak or water leak.
