JBill,
I have been on bipap since June (I struggled with c-pap for the month before). I don't think any of us "likes" having to use a PAP unit or view it as "having a good time". I don't like the idea of having to use a machine to get good sleep the rest of my life. However, I know how awful I was feeling and how tired I was all the time before I got my bipap. I switch between a nasal mask and nasal pillows. There are some nights when I finally have to get up for a short while and then go back to bed because I will have difficulty getting into a relaxed state with the machine. It took me a lot of "fiddling" and adjusting with the mask and have just recently got it adjusted so I don't have the problems with leaking any more. I suspect that once you are able to get you mask adjusted you might not take it off in your sleep so frequently. Maybe trying nasal pillows might help for you. I use the Breeze and that was what I used to finally be able to sleep with my bipap. Maybe your mask just isn't the right mask for you and a different mask might work just fine. Talk to you DME provider about a different mask or the nasal pillows. Whatever you do, don't give up. I wanted to throw mine out the window so many times!!! I was ready to tell my Dr I didn't want it. I am so glad I didn't. You will be too once you have worked out all the "bugs"!! The people on this forum are great! Use this forum to help you through this. I did and found everyone to be great support. Good luck and keep us posted!
