I will be recieving my BiPAP on Monday. I was thinking the same thing. I was referred to Sleep Lab in November, the Sleep Lab set up an initial screening in December (about 1 month later). I did the oximeter screening, took 10 days for results. They then scheduled the orientation for January 15 with my overnight stay on March 6. I was lucky at the Orientation that they had an opening the following night and I raised my hand first. After the overnight study, on the 16th/17th, I was told the order was made for the machine - that it would take ten working days or so to get the machine for DME provider. I called after five days and pushed to get it earlier (ended up being 6 working days) - I think the biggest reason is the insurance and paperwork that is involved. It is too bad, but that is the world we live in with HMO's and Healthcare providers. I am sure others have had an easier time and some worse than mine. I think it comes down to this: Be assertive, there is only one YOU and you need to look out for number ONE. Keep calling, keep pushing - I found that staying informed tends to help you be both nice and assertive. My mom always said, you catch more flies with honey than with vinager. Seemed to work for me.
