new Profile Lite mask odor??

Posted by LuckyLinda on February 13, 2003 at 18:59:25:

Well, I am another newbie who is thrilled to have found this forum! The search engine is great and you have an endless amount of helpful information.

I was initially fitted for the Ultra Mirage shallow mask and headgear. It worked well for the first two weeks or so because I was barely moving as I was still adjusting and I haven't slept this well in years. As I became more comfortable with CPAP, I began to revert to my most comfortable side sleeping position and that is when my trouble began with leaking.

My DME told me she would send the RT out to check and possibly refit. In the meantime I had done some research and determined that I should have not been put into the shallow size. I am only 4'11" tall and my face is short too!

We finally decided on the profile lite in the petite/small size which seals better for me. However, the mask has a terrible smell to it. I believe it is cigarette smoke, but my husband thinks that it is just a funky new plastic smell. It is really strong! I have reason to believe that the RT smokes, but I cannot say for sure. So I am asking for your help.

When you first got your profile lite mask, did you notice a strong odor to the gel part, in particular, of the mask? How long did it take before time and washing wore it away?

Sorry for the long involved post. Thanks everyone for reading and hopefully giving me some input :-)

LuckyLinda
